The technical document "Sea temperature, salinity and total velocity climatological fields for the Central Mediterranean” (by A. Drago and R. Sorgente) was produced in cooperation with the University of Malta (International Ocean Institute – Malta Operational Centre). The document provides a general description of the hydrodynamic characteristics of the Project area and climatological fields that were calculated in the form of monthly and seasonal averages from the output of a numerical model run over a period of five years (2000-2004).

Maps resulting from oceanographic modelling at sub-regional scale were generated for salinity, temperature and currents at different depths and may be of particular interest for areas where no or little information is available, as they provide an overview of the oceanographic characteristics of the area.

Depths: 1 - 30 - 90 - 160 - 200 - 280 - 360 (m) - Bottom.

The maps can be selected according to depth, month/season and climatological field (temperature, salinity or total velocity).
